Drake is the main antagonist of The Pebble and the Penguin. He is snide, sarcastic and cruel, and being the self proclaimed "best looking" penguin in the Rookery that he is, wants Marina as his mate. Despite wanting to get with Marina for The Full Moon Mating Ceremony, he doesn't want Marina because of her personality, but because of her looks and she’s the prettiest girl in the Rookery. Seeing how Marina only has eyes for Hubie, he throws Hubie into the sea in hopes of getting rid of him. He was voiced by Tim Curry.
What Makes Him a Shojo Villain?[]
- Villainous: He's a major threat, not just to Hubie, but also Marina through several heinous acts: He throws Hubie into the seas of Antarctica with the intention of getting him killed by the Leopard Seal, sexually harasses Marina, tries to force Marina to marry him against her will, and kidnaps her in an effort to take her to the Full Moon Mating Ceremony himself in vain to try and claim her as his mate. His worst act is trying to kill Hubie and Rocko by hurling a large stone at them despite the latter not having done anything to him.
- Manipulative/Cunning: Drake has tried to gaslight Marina into loving him several times throughout the movie. Drake also has been implied to have successfully gotten the entire rookery, save for Marina, to believe Hubie has died through deception.
- Envious: Drake openly resents Hubie for him being in a romantic relationship with Marina, knowing that Marina prefers to love Hubie over him.
- Beauty and Allure: Drake has one of the most attractive designs of all the penguins, apart from Marina.
- Obsessive: Drake is highly obsessed with Marina that he'll do anything to try and claim her as his mate.
- Intellectual Superiority: Deception implications aside, Drake read Hubie's attacks during their first fight, which enabled Drake to temporarily knock Hubie out. As a follow up, he sees through Marina's attempts to reach Hubie’s unconscious body to help him recover and quickly recaptures her.
- Fashionable/Stylish: Drake's cape, belt, and pants make him stand out.
- Egotistical: Very obvious. Drake proclaims himself to be the strongest, smartest, bravest, best-looking penguin in the Rookery.
- Vain: One of most defining character traits. He has his henchmen hold an ice block mirror, simply for him to admire his looks. On the plus side, Drake takes excessive pride in his physical appearance.
- Charismatic: With the notable exception of Marina, Drake is capable of charming any female penguin he comes across thanks to his handsome appearance.
- Short-Tempered: Drake is very short-tempered, given that he snaps at his henchmen for laughing their heads off when they're just having fun.
- Petty: Drake's sole reason for his contempt for Hubie is simply so he's Marina's true love in the latter's eyes. That, and his threats to turn Marina into a shark's dinner if she refuses to choose him over Hubie is cathartic.
- The fact that he lacks any redeeming qualities makes his case even worse.
- Lustful: Drake has sexually harassed Marina and forced himself onto her on numerous occasions without an ounce of care for her personal boundaries. He also wants Marina as his mate solely for her beauty.
- Complicated Relationships: His relationship with his henchmen is complicated given he loses his temper at them when they're goofing off; however, the narrative makes it seem that he encouraged the goons to laugh their heads off with him the entire time as there are some scenes that show he is fine with his minions acting silly.
- Wears Red/Black/Purple: Drake has purple eyeshadow and wears a red cape and black pants. His body feathers are black as well.
